"Media" condemning the closure of media organizations in Jerusalem

2020-04-15

The "Media-Center" condemns the attack by its security forces this Wednesday morning on a number of institutions in Jerusalem, whether in the education sector, health care or the media. This happened as they worked to close these facilities and stop their work after confiscating their files and investigating their crews.

The government decrees of the Minister of Internal Security, Gilad Erdan, extended to the Cedar Production Office as well as to Palestinian television, where the minister explained the step by claiming that these channels are working on broadcasting content that serves the state of Palestine! The order, which is in breach of Article 3(a), related to the implementation of the Interim Agreement on the West Bank and Gaza (definition of activities) 1994.

The “Media-Center” believes that this step represents an additional attempt to restrict the population of Jerusalem in general and media activities in particular, thereby exposing violations of the occupation in Jerusalem and the West Bank.

The “Media-Center” stresses that the misinformation of the media put forward by Israel will not succeed in view of the technological development and that this decision is in contradiction with the various international treaties that guarantee freedom of journalism and freedom of movement to journalists.

“Media-Center” also emphasizes that these practices, which include the arrest and interrogation of journalists, including journalist Ayman Abu Ramz and journalist Christine Renawi, are a blatant violation of journalistic work that seeks to learn the facts that Jerusalem is suffering and the freedom of expression and citizenship.
