Police Officers Continue to Attack Journalists!

2021-02-21

A third attack on a journalist was reported. It broke out when Mutassim Masarweh was covering the protests against the rampant violence in our Palestinian society and the institutional discrimination policy led by the right-wing government. The police assaulted our colleague Masarweh, who works as a field reporter at the "Bokra" website. This incident occurred two weeks after police officers assaulted our colleague Reham Athamleh, and a few days after our colleague Tamer Makleda was attacked by the police.

Masarweh stated that police officers assaulted him while he was covering the protests. The police officers continued the attack even after he identified himself as a member of the press.

In addition, the police officers tried to hinder the work of Masarweh by preventing him from covering the police brutality against the liberal youths who are protesting against violence and the continued neglect of the government.

A seminar on the attitude of Israeli police towards media and journalism.

The I’lam Media Center organized a seminar regarding the attitude of the Israeli police towards journalists.

The seminar was attended by Muhammad Baraka, The High Follow-up Committee Chairman, and dozens of professionals in the field of police violence against activists and journalists. They dealt with the interaction of the Israeli police with Palestinian reporters and journalists. They confirmed the "Hostility" and "Unprofessionalism" of police officers, while their job is to ensure the safety of the people, and to allow the press to cover and convey facts to the general public as part of "the public's right to knowledge and freedom of expression."

I'lam will be following up on this matter, since several messages have been sent to the minister of Interior Security and to other relevant figures as well.
